Spoke neck

The lenght of a spoke bow (spoke neck) is important to every hub flange.
Many spoke manufacturers have however changed their “standard” spoke bow length over the past years. DTSwiss’ standard neck length is currently 2.4mm and in autumn 2015 SAPIM reduced their standard length to 2.7mm.
A "short neck" spoke in combination with stronger or large diameter hub, is one of the sources that can lead to hub flange failure.

The required spoke neck length for a Rohloff Speedhub was and is 2.9mm. As you can see in the pictures, a 2.9er spoke fits mostly better in most of the hubs here than a "short bow" spoke.
