Rohloff developed this specially designed lubricant in cooperation with a leading German lubrication manufacturer. Oil of Rohloff is specially designed for use with the bicycle chain and the Rohloff Lubmatic automatic chain lubrication system. (Lubmatic is not manufactured anymore. - Sorry.)
Oil of Rohloff has the following features:
The lubricant comes in 50ml plastic bottles which can also be refilled by local dealers adding to its environmentally friendly nature.
For bike clubs it might be attractive to use the 1 liter Oil of Rohloff cans.

Oil of Rohloff is not a mineral oil but rather an oil-seed-rape based synthetically produced lubricant.
Fatty acids are avoided (because these tend to react with oxygen causing operational deterioration) which allows long carbon chains to be produced which in turn guarantees a high pressure stability within the chain links.
The Oil of Rohloff simultaneously retains a high penetrating property, allowing the oil to easily seep from the chain rollers to the chain link.
Dirt can only stick to a chain link-plate if they are covered in sticky lubricant.
So how do you lubricate your chain? A thinly rationed thread of lubricant should be applied to the outer face of the chain rollers and allowed approximately 15 minutes to seep under these rollers and onto the actual link. Should too much oil fall onto the chain (which is typically the case) then the chain should be drawn once through a cloth to simply remove any excess oil.
This unique, completely environmentally friendly product is only available under the name 'Oil of Rohloff'.
The product has been carefully manufactured together with the specialist lubricant manufacturer 'Klüber', specifically for bicycle use. To date, they produce all lubricants for us under contract.
The company Sapim even went so far as to ask for a special quantity of this lubricant for the 'Tour de France'. This was not sold but rather supplied to the various Sapim sponsored teams upon rider request. Many professional cyclists have come to rely on our lubricant and consider it a vital component in their arsenal - treasuring the many attributes, especially in wet weather.
For all interested:
As of Summer this year, the Oil of Rohloff will be made available in a redesigned bottle, ensuring a perfectly sealed transportation for all riders to include in their panniers.
